FAQ

Which security types are supported?

WPA, WPA2 and WPA3 networks all use the WPA option; WEP and open networks have their own. Hidden networks work too — tick the checkbox so phones know to look for the name.

Does it work on both iPhone and Android?

Yes. iPhones join from the camera app since iOS 11, and Android has understood Wi-Fi codes natively since version 10. Older devices may need a QR app.

Is my Wi-Fi password uploaded anywhere?

No. The password is written into the image right in your browser and never leaves your device — check the network tab if you like.

Capacity and limits

The network name, password and security mode travel in one compact payload, so Wi-Fi codes stay light unless the password is very long. Semicolons, commas, colons and backslashes inside a name or password are escaped automatically, so networks with punctuation encode correctly.

Device compatibility

iPhones join straight from the camera app since iOS 11, and Android has read Wi-Fi codes natively since version 10. Older devices need a scanner app that supports the format. WPA3-only networks join through the WPA option on current phones, but very old clients may not connect at all.

Common mistakes

  • Choosing the wrong security mode: a WPA network encoded as open produces a code that scans cleanly and then fails to connect, which is hard to debug in a busy café.
  • Leaving the hidden-network box unticked for an SSID that is not broadcast, so the phone never finds the network it is told to join.
  • Reprinting the code after a password rotation but leaving the old laminated card on the table.

Printing and placement

Table tents and door cards are read from about half a metre, so 30 to 50 mm is usually right. Print the network name in plain text beside the code as a fallback for devices that cannot scan the format.
